Rani Mukherji is one of our most brilliant actors. She has tried various genres and always managed to slip into her character flawlessly, additional to being immensely entertaining. Rani will next be seen in her home production YRF’s Hitchki, where she plays a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome.

In an astounding career of 21 years, recounting her most landmark film, Black, in which Rani played a young girl with visual and hearing impairment, and her ambition to complete graduation like any other normal person, assisted by her home tutor Debraj.

She recalls:

“Black is my only performance which I don’t think I can better. With my other films I can have hundred issues… I could have done this scene in a better way, or that could be changed. Black is the only film that I don’t think I will ever re-do any shot or do anything differently than what I did at that point.”

On portraying her character:

“I don’t know how I did it. If someone told me to do Black today, I won’t be able to do it. For each film there is a time and Black came at a time in my career… there was some a kind of magic that happened during those months when we were shooting for the film. Even when Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I talk today, he also says that even he won’t be able to do that film today. There was that time, that period when all of us were so immersed in the world of Black. It all came so naturally.”

Rani further added she delivered the entire film in first-attempted takes and went up to a maximum of 3 attempts to get the perfect shot. Black will always be a beloved film to Rani Mukherji and her fans.
