Ranveer Singh these days is absolutely on a roll. He is definitely a gifted actor and he knows how to pick his films and stay in the news for all the good reasons. From being all cute with his partner Deepika Padukone to playing the terrific Alauddin Khilji in his upcoming hindi drama movie ‘Padmavati’, he is making all kinds of buzz on the internet. And the recent one is about Kabir Khan’s next directorial ’83 where he will be portraying Kapil Dev, the man who brought the first Cricket world cup home.
There was a time when India was not considered that great in the cricketing fraternity. Those were the times when the West Indian giants used to dominate the game. But Kapil Dev and his insignificant team fought and won against the undef-eatable side and brought the world cup home. According to the press release which was published online recently, “It is about that day, and all the events that lead to that moment of victory, tracking the coming of age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world.”
Director Kabir Khan has said in a statement: “As a young school boy, when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. It’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalizing the script.”
We are already excited about Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Padmavati along with Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor and ’83 will be the latest addition to the list. This cricket biopic ’83 will be jointly produced by Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films in association with Vibri Media and Kabir Khan Films. The release date as of now is slated as April 5, 2019.
