Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji, the Turko-Afghan ruler of the Delhi Sultanate who is also the villain in the film. From the looks of the trailer he sure does pack a punch in his portrayal as the infamous ruler.
According to the epic poem, Khilji laid siege to Chittor motivated by his desire to capture Ratan Singh’s (Shahid Kapoor) beautiful wife Padmavati and that is what the movie portrays albeit in a dramatic and larger than life format which is also the signature style of director Sanjay Leela Bansali.
Both Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Bansali have been receiving threats from various right wing organisations beginning with the Shri Rajput Karna Sena from Jaipur, Rajasthan. This has also resulted in the producers postponing the release date for Padmavati from November to December and now it is likely that the movie might see the light of day only sometime next year.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has also been dragged into the mess with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind the film, announcing that Padmavati would be released only after the requisite clearances are in place. From the looks of it, for fans of the actors and audiences alike the wait for Padmavati’s release has only just begin.
