One of the most controversial films of the year, Padmavati, still hasn’t found a new release date. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this movie is based on the the famous story of queen Padmavat portrayed by Deepika Padukone. Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Raja Rawal Ratan Singh also play the lead roles in this movie. Surrounded by numerous controversies and speculations, finally the movie has got a clearing from the CBFC in India. The board has decided to give a U/A certificate ‘along with some modifications’ to Padmavati and has suggested the filmmaker to change the movie’s title to ‘Padmavat’.
A CBFC statement says that the film has also been asked to give a few disclaimers with one of them being not glorifying the practice of Sati and also relevant modifications in the song Ghoomar to befit the character portrayed. An examining meeting was held on 28 December in presence of CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi. The special panel consisted of Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr. Chandramani Singh and professor K.K. Singh of Jaipur University.
The film was approached with a ‘balanced view keeping in mind both, the filmmakers and the society. The board asked for several cuts and a name change before giving the film a certification for showing in theatres in India. Well, even now the movie is speculated to release next month. We hope the movie sees the light of the day and the actors and makers get the applause they deserve for this cinematic piece of brilliance.
