The year started with a bang for Shahid Kapoor. He starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati alongside Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh and it was the first film in his career to earn over Rs. 100 crores at the Indian box-office. After the release of SLB’s magnum opus, Kapoor took off to Uttarakhand to film for Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which is based on the theft of electricity in rural parts of the country. While the film did run into some financial trouble, the shoot is back on track and should be wrapped up soon. Besides Shahid Kapoor, Batti Gul Meter Chalu stars Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam.
The other project Shahid has given his nod to is the Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster – Arjun Reddy. The 2017 film starred Vijay Devarakonda and ran to packed houses for weeks. Kapoor will reprise the role and is supposed to bulk up for it. The were speculations about Sara Ali Khan starring in the film but Tara Sutaria has finally bagged the role. Sutaria will be making her big screen debut this year in Dharma Productions’ Student of the Year 2.
On the personal front, Shahid and his wife Mira Rajput are expecting their second child. Their daughter Misha was born in 2016 and the actor made the announcement of Mira’s pregnancy through an Instagram post. The couple tied the knot in 2015 and theirs was an arranged marriage. So this shows there’s a lot for Kapoor to look forward to, both personally and professionally.
