Not many films old, but Siddharth Malhotra has evolved with every film. From a gullible rookie in his debut “Student of the Year” to a lover out for vengeance in Ek Villian and a die-hard romantic in Baar Baar Dekho, he has proved himself to be one of the most promising youngsters on the block. Having featured in just six films until now, the actor has portrayed different characters which give depth to his acting skills. With each role, he has proved that he is here to stay for the long haul.
Siddharth started his career with modeling and his big Bollywood debut came in the form of Karan Johar’s super-successful film, Student of the Year, in 2012. This film also launched Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in the film industry. He was an Assistant Director to Karan Johar in the 2010 film, My Name is Khan. It was here that Karan noticed him and cast him in his next. He played Abhimanyu Singh, a college student who competes with his best friend Rohan (played by Dhawan) to win an annual school championship. The film was a huge success and his portrayal of Abhimanyu Singh’s character won many hearts and awards.
After giving a hit debut, Sidharth was next seen in Hasee Toh Phasee opposite Parineeti Chopra. He played an aspiring businessman in this film and received accolades for his mature performance. Though the film was a moderate success at the box office, Siddharth was well praised by the critics as well as masses. It was his next film Ek Villian with Shraddha Kapoor that earned him the title of “The Most Promising Youngster of Bollywood”. Mohit Suri cast him as Guru, a hardened criminal whose terminally-ill wife is murdered by a serial killer. He was seen in a completely different avatar in this film as compared to his earlier two movies. The film emerged as a major success and Sidharth was established as one of the most successful among the new generation of Bollywood actors.
In 2015, he was seen in Brothers, alongside Akshay Kumar. He underwent extensive training in martial arts for this film. Brothers was a successful film. In the following year, he appeared in Kapoor & Sons, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan. This was the story of a dysfunctional family and Siddharth’s performance was well received. His Baar Baar Dekho alongside Katrina Kaif last year was not received very well at the box office, but he was not written off.
As the actor celebrates his 32nd birthday today, let’s wish him luck for his upcoming film, Reloaded, with Jacqueline Fernandez.
