Taking Over The Box Office: Sanju Enters The 100 Crore Club On Opening Weekend

Written by Rochell Pereira

The Sanjay Dutt biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor has quickly taken over the box office, breaking several records in its opening weekend. After becoming the biggest opener of 2018, Sanju has now become the highest weekend grosser of the year. The film’s opening weekend closed at a whopping Rs 120.06 crore, crossing the magical Rs 100 crore mark.

Sanju opened at Rs 34.75 crore on June 29, taking over the number one spot from Salman Khan’s recent release Race 3 (Rs 29.17 crore). It then earned over Rs 38.60 crore on Saturday, taking its opening 2 day collection to around Rs 73.35 crore. On Sunday, Sanju raked in a colossal Rs 46.71 crore, the highest single day collection for any film this year. This took the film’s total weekend collection to record breaking Rs 120.06 crore.

Considering the massive momentum, it looks like Sanju is set to beat the iconic Aamir Khan starrer PK’s lifetime collection record of Rs 340.8 crore. Famously, PK had earned Rs 26.63 crore on its opening day, and Rs 95.41 crore at the end of its opening weekend. This only proves the explosive potential of Sanju’s collection. All of this combined with rave reviews might just bring Sanju to Bollywood’s No. 1 spot!
