After playing some of the most elaborate and era defining roles like Silk Smita in The Dirty Picture in movies like Parineeta, Kahaani and her recent Tumhari Sulu, Vidya Balan has got one role she’d always wanted. This actress has always proved her mettle amongst the top actresses in bollywood and this time, she will be portraying this era defining role in a project based on journalist-author Sagarika Ghose’s book “Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.
In the last one decade, we have seen Vidya playing a lot of unconventional and off beat roles with her out of the box movies. and this time playing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi onscreen, will be nothing less than a challenge for her. But she’s pretty excited and when asked about it she has said- “I am happy to have acquired the rights to Sagarika Ghose’s ‘Indira…’, because I have always wanted to play Indira Gandhi. I haven’t decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway,”
Published by Juggernaut Books, the book is a biography that tries to find answers to a series of issues- from why Indira Gandhi revoked the Emergency to her son Sanjay’s curious grip over her; and from her bad marriage and love affairs to her dangerous religious politics.Gandhi has been played twice by the actress Supriya Vinod in Jabbar Patel’sYashwantrao Chavan (2014) and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar (2017). With this new project, we hope Vidya does justice to the looks and plays it even better than the former.
