The trailer to the upcoming movie has earned over 50 million views since it was unveiled three weeks ago. Kangana plays a 32 year old Jaya, a jovial mother, a supportive housewife, and a forgotten Kabaddi player. With Kabaddi being her past, her dream is the basic requirement of the family.
In this haphazard way of life and dreams, Jaya encounters her inner desire to give Kabaddi and her life yet another try. This takes her on a journey which challenges the society and its stereotypes. Panga follows the empowering arc of redemption of a mother.
Panga which loosely translates into ‘to mess with’ gives out a heartwarming message – your kin is behind you, you can achieve anything against all odds.
Ashwini Iyer Tiwary, who earlier directed the highly entertaining Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Bareilly ki barfi, returns with her third outing in the form of Panga. Known for her stories that are highly rooted in the sub-culture of Hindi heartland, Panga isn’t an exception. Like her earlier films, the additional screenplay and dialogues have been penned by her filmmaker husband Nitesh Tiwary.
Apparently, all the actors who play Kabaddi players in the film underwent a rigorous training for 2 months.
The score and the music is by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and are complemented by Javed Akhtar’s lyrics.
The upcoming movie is written by Nikhil Malhotra and Ashwini Iyer Tiwary and Produced by Fox Star Studios along with Ashwini Iyer Tiwary.
The recent history of Hindi movies have taught us that a story of redemption can do magic at the box office. Add to that the punching performance by Kangana and the direction of Ashwini Iyer Tiwary, Panga is sure to create huge waves when it comes out on January 24th.
