Hollywood has had many films that need to be on every movie buff’s must-watch list, but most of these movies often are from before 2000. There have also been many Hollywood films in the recent years that everyone should watch. Here are seven must-watch films of the twenty-first century.

1. The Dark Knight

This Christopher Nolan film showed that superhero films were capable of being so much more. Along with featuring Heath Ledger’s unbeatable portrayal of Joker, and a gripping plot, there’s no doubt that everyone should watch this at least once.

All three Lord of the Rings are highly regarded by both film critics and Tolkien fans. The high production quality of this Peter Jackson trilogy is something that deserves a watch.

Another Nolan film, Inception became famous in part due its complicated plot and the signature music that went on to become a meme, and also for being a film that Leonardo DiCaprio should have got an Oscar for, but didn’t.

Winning three Oscars, The Pianist is one of the best World War II films made in the twenty-first century. Showing the true horror through the eyes of one man, this film is both historically significant and deeply moving.

7. Whiplash

Directed and written by Damien Chazelle, this wasn’t his first film, but it was his first film that received a wide release. It went on win three Oscars, and give Chazelle’s career a big boost with his next film, La La Land, becoming another big success.
