American Assassin is a Michael Cuesta directed adaptation of the 2010 political thriller by author Vince Flynn of the same name by CBS Films and Lionsgate. In the movie, actor Dylan O’Brien plays Mitch Rapp, a gifted collage athlete without a care in the world whose life turns topsy -turvy when he loses his parents to a tragic car accident at the tender age of 14. Later on in life another tragedy befalls him when his fiancée gets killed in a terrorist attack just moments after he proposes to her. Unbeknownst to him he has an untapped instinct for violence and that helps him become a CIA recruit.

Mitch Rapp (O’Brien) goes on to serve in a black ops mission aimed at stopping a mysterious operative intent on starting a World War III type threat in the Middle East. He is trained by deep cover Cold War veteran Stan Hurley played by Oscar nominated actor, Michael Keaton. He is helped along by Turkish agent Annika played by actor Shiva Negar. The mysterious operative nicknamed “Ghost” is played by actor Taylor Kitsch of Savages fame.
The 24-year old lead actor Dylan O’Brian reportedly relied heavily on former Navy SEAL’s and other military experts for all the inputs in developing his character. He also visited an army base at Fort Hood in Killen, Texas and chatted with soldiers and their families. Later he gave them the first look of the movie.

The cast for American Assassin also includes actors Scott Adkins, Sanaa Lathan and David Suchet in pivotal roles. The movie’s screenplay is written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz.
American Assassin has been shot extensively in London, Rome, Phuket with additional filming done in Birmingham and Valletta (Malta). Vince Flynn, The New York Times bestselling author also has many other great books (14 of them!) which revolve around the same character that could be adapted into movies if this one does well at the box-office.
