The release of Ant-Man and the Wasp in India is about a week away, but we already have some reviews from international publications that have us looking forward to watching the film on the big screen.
The first Ant-Man film which came out in 2015 was a success, but it wasn’t that big when compared to usual Marvel standards. Being the first film featuring the superhero, not many Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were all that familiar with Ant-Man. The film had a problematic production too – originally helmed by Edgar Wright and then being taken over by Peyton Reed as a director. Ant-Man had the responsibility to tell the origin story of how Paul Rudd’s character, Scott Lang, became Ant-Man. Ant-Man has since become a popular character, even making a giant appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will pick up after Civil War, and from the early reviews, it seems like it’s even more fun this time around. With no characters to set up as it’s all been done in the previous film, Ant-Man and the Wasp can focus on just telling the story. Evangeline Lily’s Wasp is not just a side-character, she shares equal screen space with Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and it’s possibly the first time that we will get to see a female superhero as a lead in a Marvel film. Critics are praising the dynamics of the duo, which has added a completely new aspect to the Ant-Man universe. There is plenty of action, but it has the tinge of playfulness which makes Peyton Reed’s sequel an entertaining watch.
