American comic book writer Scott Lobdell’s new movie Happy Death Day is a slasher movie that piques interest. It is being directed by Christopher Landon (of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones fame) and has a very engaging trailer with a background score of 50 Cent’s In Da Club playing throughout its duration. The movie is being bought to audiences by horror studio Blumhouse.

The plot of the movie centres around a woman called “Tree” played by Jessica Rothe. She finds herself trapped in a time loop, at the end of which she gets murdered by a baby-faced assassin only to find herself waking up to the same sequence of events. It is up to her to find a way to get out of this exhausting time loop that inadvertently has her dying in different ways that too on her birthday!
After getting over the shock of re-living the entire day over and over again and getting murdered at the end of it, ‘Tree’ realises that the only way out of the horrid nightmare is to find out who’s killing her. Happy Death Day also reminds us of the 2014 sci-fi Tom Cruise movie, Edge of Tomorrow, in which he takes the help of another character played by Emily Blunt to get out of a similar endless time loop.
The movie is promising, especially since it is a Blumhouse production, as the company has been making successful horror movies for the past eight years. These include popular movies such as The Purge and Insidious. Actors Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Israel Broussard and Rachel Matthew co-star in Happy Death Day. The film is being distributed by Universal Pictures and will be releasing in theatres on the 13th of October.
