Anti-heroes are popular right now with all the hype around Venom, and now DC is getting in on the trend with a Joker origin story film. Joker was famously played by Heath Ledger, and his portrayal of Joker was iconic. Jared Leto took on the role of Joker with Suicide Squad, and while there was mixed feedback about it, it definitely made Joker and Harley Quinn’s popularity rise up once again.
The Joker movie was recently announced and it is being directed by Todd Phillips, who is known for directing The Hangover movies. The film will be produced by Martin Scorsese and reportedly has a budget of 55 million, which is way less in comparison to what most superhero films are made these days. With the role of Joker being played by Joaquin Phoenix, it was inevitable that more veteran actors would be associated with the project. The latest actor who is rumored to be cast in the film is Robert De Niro. As the film is supposed to be a hard-boiled crime film set in the 80s, De Niro would be a perfect fit for the role. However, as the reports have not yet been confirmed, De Niro might not end up in the film after all.
The Joker film seems quite different from the usual films DC has been putting out, and we hope that this is a step in the right direction for the DCEU. The fans are excited for the film, and while the release date for the Untitled Joker Origin Movie hasn’t been announced yet, we already can’t wait to see it.
