We all grew up on the lores of Friday the 13th. Even though it’s a western belief, it still sends chills down our spines thinking of all the evil things out there. It’s a long-lost old superstition, but still scary as hell. 20th Century Fox offered one hell of a day through its new trailer and managed to get in our minds again for the secretive X-Men movie: The New Mutants. The X-men franchise has garnered a lot of fame and recognition around the world, and this movie seems to sail on the same boat with its unique story.
The film is being directed by Josh Boone who directed the all famous ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. This upcoming horror movie through its trailer looks a very grounded, creepy haunted house film of sorts with teenage mutants instead of regular old humans. And if The New Mutants is a hit, that won’t be the end of this horror-infused superhero trend as the makers are thinking about a trilogy in the coming years.
The cast includes a not-so-nice doctor, Alice Braga, and the five young mutants imprisoned in the asylum she works in. Split movie’s Anya Taylor-Joy who has teleportation powers, Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton who can fire off powerful balls of energy, Game of Thrones favorite Maisie Williams who can transform into a wolf at will. The other two mutants include the Originals actress Blu Hunt who creates realistic illusions and 13 Reasons Why’s Henry Zaga who absorbs solar energy and converts it to physical strength.
If we go to see Fox’s new approach to make a very distinct superhero movies, Logan was an incredibly grounded Western emotional superhero drama whereas Deadpool was an R-rated comedy, and now with New Mutants we’re getting a proper horror film. How and when these characters will have a crossover with the rest of the X-Men is unclear at the moment, but audiences are surely going to be digging this individualistic approach to the X-Men Cinematic Universe at Fox. The New Mutants hits theaters on April 13, 2018, followed by Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2, 2018. Yes, you can leave your work aside and watch this amazing trailer right away.
