After years of speculation, we finally know that Black Widow will have a movie of its own. Marvel Studios has kickstarted the process of developing the plot for Scarlett Johansson’s solo movie by hiring writer Jac Schaeffer.

Scarlett Johansson was excited about the idea of a solo movie and she said:

“I think there’s room for it. The only way to do it would be if it were something that we’ve never seen before that was really groundbreaking and incredibly badass. I think if anyone could make that happen my boss Kevin Feige could. He’s a visionary.”

Like many movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie would be set in the past of the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than the present. According to media sources, the movie would be set in two time periods – one following Black Widow’s stint in the KGB as a state secret agent and another 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The rest of the movie would portray Agent Romanoff’s journey as she makes a name for herself in the US and till her introduction to the MCU in Iron Man 2. Apart from Scarlett Johansson, the movie would star Sebastian Stan’s Winter Solider and their shared history would be explored. Whether their romance would make it to the silver screens or not, only time would tell.

Brad Winderbaum would be the executive producer for this movie which would probably release in 2020. Marvel Studios confirmed upcoming projects include the untitled fourth Avengers movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
