Molly Bloom was an Olympic-class skier who worked her way up to running the world’s most exclusive high stakes poker game for more than a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by FBI agents totting machine guns and handing her a document that read as ‘United States vs Molly Bloom’. Her stranger-than-fiction real life story from her early days to what happened after her arrest has been portrayed in the movie.
Molly’s Game also stars actors Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michal Cera, Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd and Bill Camp in pivotal roles. The trailer does a terrific job of showcasing the fast-paced no-holds bar kind of lifestyle that celebrities, politicians and billionaires live on, on a daily basis. Jessica Chastain does a good job of portraying the foot-in-the-door access that Molly Bloom had and the large influential network of people she interacted with.
Molly’s players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. It was because of that; she became a target of the FBI as well as the Russian mob. Idris Elba plays Molly’s attorney Charlie Jaffey, who was her only ally while Kevin Costner plays her wise therapist father. The screenplay has been adopted from Molly Bloom’s book.
