It’s an awesome time to be a Star Wars fan! The spin-off Star Wars movies start here. Rogue One is the first of the three standalone stories that make up the much wider Star Wars cinematic universe. Within these anthology/standalone movies, which have been called “Star Wars Stories,“ we’ll get to peer into the hidden crevices of this universe that we love so much, explore different times and places, and possibly learn about events we’ve only ever heard about. Brought to us by Disney, the first of the Star Wars Stories, Rogue One is scheduled to release this weekend and we just can’t contain our excitement.

So, before this New English movie hits the theatres this Friday, let’s take a look at what we know about it so far.

1. The Cast
Oscar-nominated The Theory of Everything, Felicity Jones will lead the cast of the film which includes Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitetaker, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen and Sonnie Yen.

2. The Director
One of the first things we learned about this English Adventure Movie, even before the title was revealed, was that it will be directed by Gareth Edwards and this is just his third movie. Prior to Rogue One, the British director and VFX artist had directed only two other feature films, the 2010 blockbuster, Monsters, a compelling and original sci-fi tale and Warner Brother’s Godzilla in 2014. With two phenomenal movies under his belt, Edwards has got enough experience to helm Rogue One.

3. The Plot
This first spin-off of Star Wars will take us back in time when following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters comes together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule. This means that story follows the time between the episodes III and IV – that’s Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope for you.

4. The Release Date
While the UK gets to see the movie on 15th of December, France, Italy and the Netherlands get the get a good deal as the movie will release there a day prior, i.e. today 14th of December. The movie will release in India this Friday.

After a great response for Moana, which got released just last week, Disney is all geared up for its next, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
