The smashing new trailer for the Siddharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee starrer, Aiyaary is out and from the looks of it, the movie is sure to be an edge-of-the-seat crime drama. In the trailer, we see Siddharth Malhotra playing a character called Jai Bakshi who is an honest and diligent army officer and the protégé of Col. Abhay Singh played by Manoj Bajpayee. Jai finds out some loopholes in the system and has a fall out with his boss. He decides to quit and find the perpetrators who are working against the country. Kumud Mishra and Adil Hussain play the antagonists while Nasseruddin Shah appears to be playing a gullible character.
Aiyaary has been shot in Kashmir, New Delhi and London and has been directed by Neeraj Pandey, the creator of Rustom, Special 26, A Wednesday, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Baby and more. The director explained the meaning of the term Aiyaary as being, ‘…the ultimate trickery. The word sums up what a soldier resorts to ultimately in the face of a crisis. A soldier’s intelligence, sharpness and wit not only bedazzles his own troops but earns him the respect of his enemies.’
The makers of the movie resorted to a clever social media campaign before the release of the trailer. Actor Sidharth Malhotra went off Twitter with a seemingly final message that said, “Sorry, I’m done!” His co-stars on the movie Rakul Preet Singh and Pooja Chopra responded to his tweet asking if things are okay and with the hashtag #SidsOffTheGrid.
Later on Sidharth returned to the platform when commanded by Col. Abhay Singh (Manoj Bajpayee’s character in Aiyaary), “Major Jai Bakshi!! As your commanding officer I order you to come back.” The campaign did the trick and got twitterati talking and intrigued about the films developments, the hashtag trended on Twitter too.
Aiyaari is set to release on 26 January, Republic Day which clashes with the release of Akshay Kumar’s biopic Padman which is about the entrepreneur and social activist from Tamil Nadu Arunachalam Muruganantham that also stars actors Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.
