Diljit Dosanjh’s fourth Hindi film will be about a real-life hockey legend, Sandeep Singh. Directed by Shaad Ali, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, Vijay Raaz and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Soorma will have music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and we have already seen a bit of their musical magic in the trailer.
The trailer starts off with showing Sandeep Singh’s childhood and his long-time association with hockey. Both Taapsee and Diljit play national-level hockey players in Soorma, and from what we can see, they have both undergone a lot of training for this role. Angad Bedi will be playing Sandeep Singh’s brother and trainer, Bikramjeet Singh. This rising champion was paralyzed while returning from the World Cup by an accidental gunshot wound. This is where Soorma diverts from the usual sports biopics. It was said that Sandeep Singh would never be able to play hockey again due to his disability, but this isn’t what happened. In one of the greatest comeback stories of all time, he made a miraculous recovery and went on to not only get into hockey once again, but also become the India hockey team’s captain and lead the team into victory at the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and qualified for the 2012 Olympics.
This inspiring tale of hard work and determination is one that deserves to be told, and it seems like the actors will be delivering some of the best performances of their careers in these intense life-changing roles.
The film is set to release next month, on 13th July, and we are eagerly awaiting to see this stirring true story on the big screen.
