Kailash Kher is known for his Indian folk and Sufi music. The singer, who initially struggled to get his big break, won hearts with the track, Allah Ke Bande, from the Bollywood movie – Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part 2. Pictured on Arshad Warsi, the song became a rage and Kher was flooded with offers from noted Hindi film makers. What worked for the number was its inspiring lyrics and Kailash Kher’s distinctive vocals. Besides Allah Ke Bande, some of his other chartbusters are Teri Deewani, Saiyaan, Jay-Jaykara, Chak Lein De, Rabba Ishq Na Hove, Bam Lahiri, and Arziyan.
In 2005, Kailash Kher founded the Indian fusion band – Kailasa – along with Naresh Kamath, Paresh Kamath, Kurt Peters, Sameer Chiplunkar, Sanket Naik, Jovian Soans, and Jose Neil Gomes. The name was derived from Lord Shiva’s abode, Mount Shiva, and the band’s tunes are heavily influenced by medieval Indian and Western music. The albums of this group are – Aawargi (2005), Kailasa (2006), Jhoomo Re (2007), Chaandan Mein (2009), Rangeele (2012), and Ishq Anokha (2016).
You can now watch a live music event featuring Kailash Kher and Kailasa at the NCPA. This highly-awaited show will take place at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre on September 28. The aim of Kailash Kher and Kailasa – Live in Concert is to help raise funds for the victims of the Kerala floods. The organizers have clearly stated that all the proceeds of this music concert will be donated to the Kerala Flood Relief. If you are in Mumbai on that day, there’s no good reason to give this a miss.
