Premier Badminton League- From the Genteel Image to the Baddie transformation!

The sport of Badminton has come a long way from the time learned men wielded a racquet and went about doing their thing all quietly. It was invented by the British in early 1800’s and it has been looked upon mainly as a part-time sport over the years. Shadowed in the fame of sports like football and cricket, the time has finally come when we took this sport for real. Even after the sporadic achievements of Prakash Padukone and Syed Modi in 1980’s, it was after our star Pullela Gopichand’s victory in the All- England Badminton Championships in 2001 that kickstarted the trend of the sport in India.

Player personalities have completely transformed now over the time. This isn’t the generation of academically inclined athletes; they are no longer mathematicians or engineers who also play good badminton. The geeky image has been left behind for the demand of glamour like a snakeskin. The sport was originated in India and it makes the most sense that the tournament with the biggest prize money should be played in the country itself. Every other person knows who PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal are, and also that they are ranked in top 10 badminton players of the world. Players like Kidambi Srikanth, Parupalli Kashyap, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa among others, too have amassed the fan following.

All these players will be seen competing in the Premier Badminton League 2017 representing the top teams along with the mix- match of international players. There will be six franchises Bengaluru Blasters, owned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Delhi Acers, Mumbai Rockets, Awadhe Warriors, Hyderabad Hunters and Chennai Smashers. Top players from Asia and Europe will be seen taking part in the league which is scheduled from 1st January, 2017 to 14th January, 2017. The semi-finals will be played on 13th January while the final will be played on 14th January in Delhi. This second edition promises to be a much bigger and classier affair, with as many as 8 Olympic medalists who will battle it out for the title in one of the most anticipated sports event of 2017.

The new get up is rolling off nicely for the new Indian players, comfortable in fashion suits and Twitter friends with Bollywood’s biggies. Badminton has now become a ‘baddie’ and working with the current trends. The athletes aim to be no longer just players but entertainers. It’s been said for long that badminton needs to transform itself by bringing a bit of glamour and emotion to the court. So pull up your socks and enjoy the game of Badminton at it’s best in its third edition which promises some high- octane badminton action and greater scope for the sport in country. Buy Premier Badminton League tickets today and enjoy one of the best sports events in Mumbai and Hyderabad!
