After M.S. Dhoni, Mh. Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar, another iconic Indian Cricketer's life is set to be adapted to the big screen! Director Kabir Khan's next directorial venture will be a film based on the life of the former Indian ace cricketer, Kapil Dev. And none other than Ranveer Singh, who has already proved his mettle as an actor with films like ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, ‘Lootera’, ‘Ram Leela’ & ‘Bajirao Mastani’, is being considered to play this legendary cricketer on screen. Ranveer Singh is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, wherein he is portraying Allaudin Khilji, the lead antagonist of the film.
According to reports, the film will not be a biopic of Kapil Dev. It will be more about the 1983 World Cup win of India and the role Kapil Dev played in it. It will have flashes from Kapil Dev's life, but that won't be an integral part of the film. It will focus more on the final match of 1983 World Cup that India won. The film will attempt to revive India's glorious 1983 World Cup victory that changed the game of cricket in India for ever. And those who have seen Sachin: A Billion Dreams know how 1983 triumph motivated Sachin and many more to be cricketers.
Apparently, Arjun Kapoor was initially considered for the role of Kapil Dev, but it was his Gunday co-star, Ranveer Singh, who bagged the role. Kabir always wanted Ranveer to play this role, but the actor was not able to give his dates to this project as he was busy with his upcoming period drama, Padmavati, which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. And now if reports are anything to go by, Ranveer has given dates to Kabir Khan for this untitled film, based on India's 1983 World Cup triumph. Ranveer has also signed Zoya Akhtar's musical, Gully Boy, in which he will seen sharing the screen space with Alia Bhatt for the first time.
Kabir Khan's last outing, Salman Khan starrer Tubelight turned out to be a debacle at the box office. With this film, based on cricket and Kapil Dev, he would be hoping to impress the audience again. Produced by Anurag Kashyap, the film will most probably be kick started early next year!
