The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League is set to get underway from Feb 20th. And the two-time champions, Mumbai Indians will stake a claim this year to become the most successful IPL team as they set their eye on the trophy for the third time. The team certainly has lot of bases to cover as they look to improve upon last year’s dismal performance. They surely know how to forget a loss and start a new game with new energy and new determination.
Led by Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign against the Rising Pune Supergiants at Pune on the 6th of April. The side has retained most of their squad from the 2016 edition, holding back players like Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh, who have become the core members of the team now. New players in MI this year are Karn Sharma, who is their most expensive signing, alongside the likes of Mitchell Johnson, K.Gowthan, Kulwant Khejroliya, Asela Gunaratne, Saurabh Tiwari and Nicholas Pooran.
Mumbai Indians have got the most enviable Indian contingent. In the bowling department, they boast of death over specialist, Jasprit Bumbrah, supported by Pandya brothers, Krunal and Hardik, both all-rounders, the former a spinner and the latter a pacer, Vinay Kumar and Lasith Malinga. Harbhajan Singh will lead the spin attack with the support of Karn Sharma and J Suchith. The batting department has never been a concern for Mumbai Indians. They have a solid batting line-up which includes players like Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayadu, Kieron Pollard, Kulwant Khejroliya, Parthiv Patel and Saurabh Tiwari. The coach of Mumbai Indians is the former Sri Lankan batsmen, Mahela Jayawardene.
Mumbai Indians, the IPL franchise from Mumbai is owned by Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd, managed by Reliance group and headed by Nita Ambani. The team will start their campaign from 6th of April at Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, Pune against the home team, Rising Supergiants Pune, led by Steve Smith. The team will play their second match on 9th of April on their home ground at Wankhede stadium against Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Gautam Gambhir.
