The most coveted cricket tournament in India is about to start tomorrow and we just can’t wait any longer. Cricket in India is considered to be a religion and not a sport, and the followers literally worship their teams and players. Indian Premier League, a.k.a. IPL is in its 10th season and is going to be flying high for the next two months. The teams are all geared up and audiences have already started making their fantasy teams before the tournament has even begun. Talking about the participating teams, one of the strongest contenders to lift the trophy and emerge as winners is Rising Pune Supergiant.

After coming 7th in the league last year, they have removed the letter ‘s’ from their name, which the owners thought to be bringing bad luck to the team. The team is studded with stars and franchise made striking headlines in February for snapping up Ben Stokes, the British all-rounder, for a whopping sum of ₹14.5 Crore. With this heavy lifting, Rising Pune Supergiant has become the first franchise in the history of the tournament to shell out the highest sum for an overseas player. Though this addition will be of a great value to the team, other star players like Mitchell Marsh and Indian spin hero R Ashwin have been ruled out of the league due to injuries.

This Pune franchise also decided to demote MS Dhoni from the captaincy and named Australian skipper, Steve Smith to lead the side for the upcoming season, citing the need for a young and fresh person in charge. Though Dhoni’s records are far better than his Australian counterpart, the team needs a fresh and young person in charge; also, Smith has shown some great performances in the recent India-Australia test series and scored 499 runs in 4 test matches. His statistics have elevated rather drastically in recent times and that’s what made the selectors and management choose him this time over Captain Cool.

The team currently have some amazing players like Ajinkya Rahane, Faf Du Plessis, Manoj Tiwary, Ashok Dinda and Mayank Aggarwal to make the team rise higher and higher. The coach of the team is the former New Zealand captain, Stephen Fleming. The team will play its first home match on April 6 against Mumbai Indians at their home ground, Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, Pune. One can only imagine how this team will perform when some of the best players in the world are a part of it. This side definitely looks strong on paper and it remains to see now how these players perform collectively as a team and take other sides head-on in the upcoming T20 matches. You can buy your IPL tickets from BookMyShow and support your team all the way and make them reach the finals. Do not miss this opportunity as this is no regular tournament, the IPL we are talking about; and as the slogan goes, they have given ‘10 saal aapke naam’!
