South African Cricketer JP Duminy Withdraws From Indian Cricket Bonanza

Written by Archit Chawla

This is a great blow to the star-studded team, Delhi Daredevils just before the start of IPL 10 as the South African star JP Duminy has withdrawn his name from the tournament. It is quite shocking to the franchise and his teammates as he is a big asset to the side and it will be a difficult spot to fill. The Delhi team this year is led by the Indian pacer Zaheer Khan who has recently switched over from his old team Mumbai Indians. Delhi Daredevils is going to have a hard time as replacing a player of Duminy’s caliber is not an easy task at all. This player has also led Delhi Daredevils in the 2015 edition and has been a regular with the squad since 2014.

JP Duminy South Africa cricket Team

Jean-Paul Duminy has had mixed fortunes during his time on the side since 2014. That year, Duminy scored 410 runs at an average of 51.25, but the team still ended up with just two wins out of 14. In 2015, Duminy was selected to lead the team, but the side continued to perform badly and they managed only a seventh place in the end. Though this South African player once again put in a good show with 414 runs at an average of 41 and got the respect he deserved. In 2016, when Zaheer Khan took over and led the team, Delhi Daredevils finished sixth after a decent performance and Duminy managed 191 runs in 10 games at an average of 38.

Delhi Daredevils Chief Executive Hemant Dua has confirmed that the South African player is unavailable for the tournament owing to personal reasons and that management respects JP’s decision. They are indeed disappointed to not have JP with them this year, but as a respected player who has performed so well in the past not only in IPL but also in the international format also, they have made peace with it. To look for a replacement is a thing to do at an appropriate time as the side already has foreign players like Quinton De Kock, Angelo Mathews and Pat Cummins.

On Duminy’s part, he is equally disappointed to miss out on the forthcoming edition of this season of IPL. It was indeed a very difficult decision for him to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. He was also grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise in his times of crisis and he certainly hopes to play a part for the franchise in the near future. In the meanwhile, while this sensational player is away for some time, you can enjoy the best of cricketing action by booking your passes to the much-coveted tournament and get rid of all the cricket cravings for quite some time in the future.
