Looking at the recent form of our Indian Cricket Team, it’s hard to digest a convincing defeat that too in our favourite Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. We have had quite an amazing year when it comes to the cricketing form of the team. Talk about the blistering form in the ICC Champions Trophy, then the amazing series in Sri Lanka and then thrashing the Aussies last month. The calculations were all disturbed when the Kiwis handed over a defeat to the much hyped Men In Blue this Sunday.
Yes, New Zealand is a balanced side with a lot of young talent like the Indian team, mixed with a couple of experienced players and that’s what made them reach the target of around 280 runs with the loss of 4 wickets. This all happened after we witnessed Virat Kohli’s class with a gutsy 31st hundred in his 200th ODI in not so favourable conditions to take India to 280 for 8 in 50 overs. None of the other Indian batsmen even crossed 40-run mark with the failure of the top batting order including Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Kedar Jadhav.
The Kiwis seemed calm while Virat was playing at his top notch form and scored 125 of 120 balls. During New Zealand’s chase, Taylor and Latham came together at 80 for 3 when India was trying to capture the early wickets and drive home the advantage but their 200-run partnership for the fourth wicket made all the difference in the two innings. When India was losing wickets from one end, this partnership gave them momentum to clinch the victory all easy peezy!
New Zealand leads the three-match series 1-0 now and even though Team India resides at No #2 position in the current ODI rankings, and New Zealand sits at No. #5, the remaining two matches will be a task to conquer. The Indian Cricket team is now scheduled to play two more ODI matches against the Kiwis in Pune and Kanpur. If you are a cricket fan and want to watch Kohli scoring more runs in the coming matches, go get your friends along and enjoy the matches live in stadiums.
