Continuing their winning streak, Mumbai City FC has moved at the top of the table in the Indian Super League 2016! After crushing the FC Pune FC, Mumbai defeated the formidable NorthEast United FC by 1-0 in an exciting game on 7 th of October at their home ground. Captain Diego Forlan led from the front and scored the sole goal for his team which sealed the victory for his team.

Riding high on confidence after winning the Maharashtra derby last week, Mumbai FC City now share the top spot with NorthEast United FC but have a match in hand.

While it was Argentine playmaker Matias Defederico who scored the lone goal in the first match against FC Pune City, the marquee player Diego Forlan was the man of the match in the game against NorthEast United FC. No doubt it was Diego Forlan’s penalty that decided the match but Mumbai City FC’s victory should be attributed to a valiant all-round effort by the team. Mumbai defence, led by Krisztian Vadocz was the key factor that helped the side winning this match.

Mumbai stuck to the winning combination that beat the FC Pune in their first game in the Hero ISL 2016. The highlight of the match was the intense battle between the two marquee players, Zokora and Diego Forlan. Zokora who was playing at the centre back was given the task of containing Forlan’s attack at the goal post with the help of midfield attacker. Mumbai midfielders played quite a few through balls for the veteran Uruguayan, but almost all of them were intercepted by Zokora, giving him no space to breathe. However, it was the bad luck of NEUFC City that Forlan was awarded with a penalty and he converted it into a goal.

The midfield trio of Mumbai Krisztian Vadocz, Pronay Halder and Sehnaj Singh, deserves a special mention in this win. While Krisztian Vadocz played a crucial linkage between the attack and defence by intercepting dangerous balls, moved them forward and created passes to the forward line, Pronay Halder played way up and kept the pressure on North East. Sehnaj Singh played brilliant as a defensive midfielder in this game. Sunil Chhetri with his top notch game was a key point too.

But finally, it was that penalty by Diego Forlan that proved to be decisive in this high intensity match of Hero ISL 2016. The match-ended 1-0 in the favour of Mumbai FC City and that was the most unfortunate way of losing a match especially for North East who were at the top of the table with two successive victories prior to this game.
