Amanda Root who is known for her role in The Iron Lady plays the formidable Queen Victoria. Directed by Kavi Raj and produced by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and KR Films Hollywood, the Black Prince takes us to the untrodden paths of Indian history.
Queen Victoria played an important role in the life of Maharaja Duleep Singh. In fact it was the Queen herself who gave him the name “Black Prince”. The film tries to focus on this relationship between Queen Victoria and Maharaj Duleep Singh. Placed on the throne at the age of five, Maharaja Duleep Singh's kingdom was considered as one of the most powerful and prosperous kingdoms of the 19th century, before it got annexed by Britain. He was robbed of his legacy and was taken by the British to England, where he was introduced to Queen Victoria and developed a special relationship with her. Despite being indoctrinated into Christianity, he was curious to know more about the Sikh faith and from here starts his lifelong journey to regain his identity, dignity, and Kingdom, that took him across the world. But unfortunately he failed to reach to his own land i.e. Punjab, until his death.
The director Kavi Raj himself envisioned this film. His and his team's only objective was to carefully project the historical facts in such a way that clears all the prejudices regarding Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s family and throw light on the facts which have led to numerous misinterpretations. The Black Prince is scheduled to release across the World on July 21, in 3 languages – English, Hindi, and Punjabi. A deeper insight into the tragic story of the last ruler of India's richest kingdom, Maharaja Duleep Singh, awaits the audiences this Friday!
