More than 100 years ago, in 1913, Dadasaheb Phalke introduced us to Cinema and since then movies have become a regular part of our lives. The journey from black-and- white cinema to colour has been an enthralling one. We have crossed milestones which were almost impossible to imagine when motion pictures were introduced in our part of the world. Over the years we have given so many classic movies to the World. However the era which is considered as the Golden Age of Hindi cinema is 1950s and 60s. During this time cinema was at its best.

In this age when computer graphics, and 3D screening and other high-end technologies are taking over Bollywood, here's a list of 5 Black and White movies from 1953 that you can watch anytime and till get impressed!

1. Do Bigha Zameen
This classic movie was directed by the legendary film maker, Bimal Roy. Starring Balraj Sahni and Nirupa Roy, the film showed the struggles of a farmer whose two and a half acres of land has been acquired by a landlord due to his debts and how he struggles to pay it off. Do Bigha Zameen was the first movie to win the Filmfare Award for Best Movie.

2. Parineeta
Again directed by Bimal Roy, Parineeta is an all time classic hit of Hindi cinema. Starring Ashok Kumar and Meena Kumari in lead roles, the film was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name. Roy got the Best Director and Meena Kumari, the Best Actress award at the Filmfare that year.

3. Baaz
Baaz was one of the few films directed by Guru Dutt. Featuring himself and his wife Geeta Bali, it was an action-adventure film. Though the film was an average grosser at the box office, it is considered as one of the classic films of 1950s.

4. Anarkali
Directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal and starring Pradeep Kumar, Bina Rai and Noor Jahan, Anarkali was a Hindi historical drama based on the life of Mughal emperor Jehangir and Anarkali. It was the top grossing film of that year and one of the biggest Hindi film hits in its decade. Another film on the same theme was Mughal-e-Azam, starring Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, made in 1960, which was also a major commercial and critical hit.

5. Aan
Aan was one of the highest grossers of 1953. Starring Dilip Kumar, Premnath and Nimmi, Aan was directed by Mehboob Khan. This film was one of the first Indian films to have a worldwide release. It was India's first technicolour film.
