Puneites get ready to laugh out loud! There’s unlimited entertainment, and of course a lot of laughter that awaits you this weekend at the Shakespeare Comedy Theatre Festival. The finest actors from the Bollywood film fraternity like Vinay Pathak, Kalki Koechlin, Ranveer Shorey, Neil Bhoopalam, Cyrus Sahukar, Jim Sarabh, Aadar Malik and many more enact and bring alive some of the best works of Shakespeare on stage, with a pinch of comedy of course, like never before. Of all the upcoming theatre & play events in Pune, this one definitely warrants a space saved on your calendar; after all it’s not every day that you get to witness the great bard’s plays.

This year Rajat Kapoor’s Shakespeare comedy theatre festival returns with four adaptations, Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear and As You Like It, across 11 cities in India, which includes Pune, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur and Delhi. This comedy festival will be a four month long event. The team will tour across these 11 cities performing over 40 shows. A stage is set like never before for the great Bard’s fans and followers.

At some point in time in our lives, we have all been majestically impressed by Shakespeare – a literary genius like none other. For those of us who haven’t read any of his masterpieces, we have always been lured into reading it at least once before being suddenly-not-in-the-mood to do it. More often than not, the innumerable number of thee(s) and thou(s) and thy(s) and dost(s) that William Shakespeare loved so much are to blame, aren’t they? It’s the underlying human emotions in the plays of Shakespeare that resonate with the audience. And it’s this very aspect that actor and writer Rajat Kapoor taps into in his Shakespeare comedy theatre festival. The world of theatre has long been fascinated with the plays of Shakespeare who dominated England’s theatre scene during the 16th century. Rarely has there been a playwright whose plays have been performed, as often as Shakespeare’s. It’s an actor’s delight as well to enact the immemorial characters of Shakespeare’s works.

So all the bard’s fans out there, Rajat Kapoor and his team have come up with Shakespeare’s best works and present them to you with a comic flavour. The power packed and utterly hilarious performances will keep you hooked. For the next four month, your weekly comic dose is set!
