The stage is set for Shakespeare Comedy Theatre Festival in Kolkata! There’s unlimited entertainment, and of course a lot of laughter that awaits you this Month at Kala Mandir Auditorium where some of Shakespeare’s brilliant works will be adopted on stage with a pinch of humour by Rajat Kapoor and his team that include artists like Vinay Pathak, Neil Bhoopalam, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, and many more. Of all the upcoming theatre and play events in Kolkata, this one definitely warrants a space saved on your calendar; after all it’s not every day that you get to witness the great bard’s plays.

Written and directed by Rajat Kapoor, the four works of Shakespeare which will be adopted on stage are Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear and As You Like It. After entertaining the audiences in Chandigarh, Mumbai and Bengaluru, SCTF reaches Kolkata now. Kala Mandir Auditorium is where the action will take place. This comedy festival is a four month long affair in which the team tours across these 11 cities performing over 40 shows. After Kolkata, SCTF will move to Chennai, Jaipur and NCR.

The works of Shakespeare have always fascinated filmmakers and playwrights across the world. And why not? William Shakespeare’s novels have all the emotions, drama and quirks that connect with the reader almost instantly. And this is what Rajat Kapoor wants to tap into in his theatre adaptations of these novels. He has added a pinch of humor and wit in all his plays and presented the work of bard in his own unique style. He has roped in some of the finest theatre and film artists for his plays.

2. I Don’t Like It – As You Like It – 26th March, 4.00 p.m
Cast – Vinay Pathak, Cyrus Sahukar, Aadar Malik, Joy Fernandes, Faezeh Jalali & Shruti Vyas.

3. Macbeth – What is Done is Done – 25th March, 5.00 p.m
Cast – Kalki Koechlin / Mansi Multani, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Jim Sarbh, Tillottama Shome, Sheena Khalid, Sujay Saple, Suraj Tomer, Waris Ahmed, Jashvender Chauhan & Chandrachoor Rai.

4. Hamlet – The Clown Prince – 25th March, 8.00 p.m
Cast – Vinay Pathak, Rachel D’souza / Kalki Koechlin, Sujay Saple, Neil Bhoopalam, Puja Sarup & Namit Das / Aadar Malik.
