Naseeruddin Shah Theater Actor

Cinema came crashing into our lives and changed everything we perceived and expected out of entertainment. Earlier, an evening spent at the theater watching a play, would prove to be thoroughly entertaining and fruitful. Now, theaters are frequented only to watch the latest film releases. The old world charm has been lost in the glitz and glamor of the Indian film industry. It has been observed, however, that performing to live audiences produce far more seasoned actors than when there is assurance of retakes and other editing tools. Mentor actors like Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak, Lillete Dubey among others, have agreed to the fact that it is extremely challenging to perform to a full theater than in a studio in front of cameras.

Many actors have been theater artists before launching into the film industry. Marathi cine artists take their plays seriously and it is a huge part of growing up as an actor for almost everyone out there. Performing on stage is a riveting experience as the actor can experience the audience’s reactions then and there instead of waiting for a written review. When an audience appreciates a certain scene or dialogue, a thunderous applause, cheering and whistling will follow. The actors are so pumped up about this appreciation, that they are likely to continue to be part of the world of live stage drama along with making their presence felt on the big screen. Many actors have begun to learn the ropes of theater and what now seems like a weak trickle is likely to become a full-fledged response. Considering the industry has started to open up to stand up artists and other such live stage performances, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if an A-list actor decides to give a stage performance!

Weekend after weekend is spent on films. Many times, because of solo release films are watched for lack of anything better. It will be a better idea to watch a play instead, because it is far more enriching and exciting that a film. Like films, theaters have genres too. Pick a tragedy, a dramatic performance or a rib-tickling comedy, its going to be a win-win!
