Shweta Bachchan Nanda, daughter of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, made her acting debut recently in an advertisement alongside her father. The Kalyan Jewellers ad showcased the father-daughter duo going to a bank to return a pension cheque that was sent to them twice by mistake. The advertisement garnered a lot of attention due to the star appearances but it seems that not everyone was happy with it.
A number of bankers criticized Kalyan Jewellers for portraying their professions in a negative light. In the ad, Amitabh and Shweta are shown going from one counter in the bank to another, as no bank employee is willing to help them. The banking community was critical of this aspect, claiming that they are extremely helpful and not careless about a consumer’s complaint as the as depicted them to be. Naturally, they took to social media to openly criticize the ad and the foolishness of the actors to be a part of this project.
In no time, Kalyan Jewellers and #shameonyoubigB were trending on Twitter, as official channels also posted tweets condemning the advertisement. This came as quite a shock to both Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter, who were simply reveling in the father-daughter moment they shared on television for the first time. However, Kalyan Jewellers took note and they recently took down the ad, after a barrage of insults came their way. They also released an official media statement claiming that they meant no intentional harm and the ad was made keeping in mind the ‘trust’ factor, which reflects towards its end.
As of now, the ad is still visible on Amitabh Bachchan’s timeline on Twitter. Watch it here:
