For long, we have seen women depicted as the damsel in distress needing saving by the mighty hero. But, the 21st century and 2019, in particular, is changing the scene with movies having strong female leading roles. Hollywood no longer believes that movies with strong female leading roles bomb at the box office. And after Wonder Woman’s mega-success, there is no denying that the audiences are demanding powerful women who don’t need saving by any man.

Altia: Battle Angel
Altia is an action-packed American science fiction movies based on the manga by Yukito Kishiro. Altia (Rosa Salazar), who after being revived by Dr Dyson (Christoph Waltz) sets out on a dangerous path to learn her destiny. The movie has been directed by Robert Rodriguez
Unplanned is based on the memoirs of Abby Johnson. It is a Christian drama written and directed by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman. The story revolves about how Abby, a director at Planned Parenthood, becomes a Pro-life activist after she is asked to assist abort a child at thirteen-week gestation.
Fighting with My Family
Fighting with My Family is a film based on the life of WWE wrestler Paige. The film is a comedy-drama directed by Stephen Merchant. The story is about what happens when Saraya (Florence Pugh) the daughter of the Bevis family, who are all wresters by profession, gets a contract to WWE.
Written and directed by Lulu Wang, The Farewell is a comedy-drama about how Billi (Awkwafina) a Chinese-American woman visits China to see her Grandmother (Zhao Shuzhen) who is terminally diagnosed with lung cancer. She does all this over the objections of her family.
Midsommar written and directed by Ari Aster is an American horror film where a couple visits the rural home of their friends in Sweden to see the famous mid-summer festival. The idyllic retreat turns bizarre and violent when they are pulled into a competition in the hands of a pagan cult.
