Netflix is gradually making its mark on Indian media. This year, we have already had two Hindi movies that were released on this streaming service – Love per Square Foot and Lust Stories. Both the movies received rave reviews and more filmmakers are looking towards creating online content.
After movies, Indian television is now moving to Netflix, with Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Sacred Games releasing on July 6, 2018. The series stars Saif Ali Khan as the protagonist and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the antagonist in a story based on Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name. Radhika Apte, Rajshri Deshpande, Surveen Chawla, Anupriya Goenka, Neeraj Kabi, Aamir Bashir, Jatin Sarna, and Raghubir Yadav make up the rest of the cast. Sunny Pawar of Lion fame stars as a young Nawazuddin, while Affan Khan plays the younger version of Saif.
Sacred Games revolves around a contemptuous Mumbai city cop Sartaj Singh (Saif) who is tipped off on the location of crime lord Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawaz) by the man himself. Sartaj is facing problems at work, having to lie for the murder his boss commits, as well as at home, as his wife leaves him. Meanwhile, we are also privy to Ganesh’s entry into the world of crime in the first episode itself. As the lives of these two men collide, it exposes the trappings of a bigger game than both of them.
Sacred Games is already gaining popularity on social media and we have no doubt that it will be one of the most watched shows on Netflix when it releases this Friday.
