10 things to do during a power cut

Technology has become a part of our life and so has electricity. It is like the fuel that tech runs on. We depend on many things that run on electricity. Right from that freshly-brewed cup of coffee to start your day to that late night TV show before bed. Life slows down when we have these random power cuts. We don’t know what to do and it takes our patience to the limit. Don’t worry, here are a few things you could try next time your locality has a power cut:

1. Cross Ventilation. Open all your windows and door.
We can’t live without a fan, the heat just wont lets us be. Hence, it is very important to let the air flow. Also, you never know who walks into your life when you open these doors.

2. Get to know your neighbor.
Like we said, open the doors. Get to know the person who lives right in front of you. You’ve been staying there for a long while but the only time you smile at each other is when your “doodhwala” wakes you up at 7A.M.

3. Read that book you always wanted to.
We all have that one book we’ve always wanted to read but never got the time. Well, this is your time. Might as well get your reading glasses on and start reading something good instead of food menus.

4. Play a board game.
We understand. No TV, no computers or Play-station. You get bored but how about you try a board game? Like you did when you were kids. Dig through your old stuff and find one. This could be a nice family bonding exercise as well.

5. Get out! Explore the world outside.
It might be your holiday and all you want to do is lay in bed with the AC on. Oh wait! No electricity. Go out, ride a bicycle. Go for a walk with your friends or maybe read that book in a garden. Nothing is better than the combination of nature and literature.

6. Go find people in need of help!
Roam around, visit nearby buildings and try looking for people stuck in an elevator. Try helping them, even if you are unable to get them out at least you’ll learn how to when someone finally rescues them.

7. Have your own Candle light dinner.
Who said you have to shell out a lot to have a nice candlelight dinner? Thanks to the power cut you can have one at your own house. Spice things up with a romantic conversation with your better half.

8. Have fun with shadows.
Use your hands and be creative. Twist and turn your arm and try making an animals shadow. It’s fun, innovative and you wouldn’t realize how time went by.

9. Repeatedly Call.
Yes, this is India. No, not a single person will listen to you in the first go. Keep calling the engineers and officers asking them to fix the issue immediately. This wont make them work any faster but it’ll give you assurance.

10. MOVE AWAY!
Yes, Indian cities are getting hotter by the minute and it is very tough to survive without a fan or an AC. If you run out of tolerance and cant take it anymore, don’t follow any of the above mentioned points. Hire a rickshaw and go over to a friend ASAP.

So this is how you can tackle a power outage. What do you do when the lights are out? Let us know.
