Review: “Shauhar ho toh shauhar ki tarah raho, dumchalla banke mat phiriye” are some of the witty lines one hears in this satirical romantic comedy. A Ramlila production, a love quadrangle and a love potion, one would think these three ingredients would make one messy pot boiler. But 10ml love doesn’t fail to surprise you despite it’s abundant drama. Loosely inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, whether the film lives up to the famed play is questionable but one thing is for certain, it’s plot is irresistible!
Ten minutes into the film, you find yourself uncontrollably chuckling at this twisted tale. As far as the story goes, Neel (Purab Kohli) is about to marry Shweta (Tara Sharma), the girl he fancied in school. Little does Shweta know what was brewing between Minnie (Koel Purie) and Neel, a common friend of both Shweta and Neel. Shweta on the other hand is in love with Peter (Neil Bhoopalam) a garage mechanic! While Ghalib (Rajat Kapoor) is a quack who sells aphrodisiacs to lovers, he struggles to win his wife, Roshni’s (Tisca Chopra) affections. In the midst of all this, you have the Ramlila crew practicing. What ensues on one mad night, all courtesy, Josh-e-jawani, a love potion (yes, it’s got a name that’ll have you giggle endlessly), invented by Ghalib’s mother (Sarita Joshi) is beyond Ghalib’s imagination who simply wanted to win over his wife.
Of course there’s a boring track between the four lovers beating around the bush and making you wonder that professing one’s love is anything but rocket science. From the performances, the most charming track belongs to Rajat Kapoor and Tisca Chopra who have the best dialogues. Rajat Kapoor is adorable even when he’s suspecting his wife! The chemistry between the two is evident even when they’re quarreling! Tara Sharma can act but a lot of her dialogues still sound like she’s screeching.
10ml love has an old school theatre feel to it and that is where it’s appeal lies. At a time when I almost lost faith in romantic comedies, 10ml love restored my faith in them. This movie is realistic, entertaining, romantic, deliciously hilariously. How many films can manage that feat?
Verdict: Restore your faith in Rom-coms. Abundant drama, luring plot & endless giggling!
