Can you believe it's 2017 already? Like, what happened to 2016? Where did it go? It's okay for time to pass but why is it flying? Now we will all have to postpone all the things we planned to do in 2016. Pfft!
If you are done overreacting then let us tell you, not only the year has passed you have also grown older. If you haven't noticed Fatima Shaikh who played Geeta Kumari Phogat in Dangal is the cute little girl who played Kamal Hassan's daughter in Chachi 420. And that was only 20 years ago. Remember the rage of the year 2000 when all of us were excited to write the date as 1/1/Y2K? Bet most of us didn't even now what it meant at the time. It has been 17 years since that chaos. A year more and the 20th century will turn into an adult. God save us.
Halting time is not in our hands but what is in our hands is to have fun and make memories. And as we bid adieu to 2016 and welcome the new year, let's take a look back at the year 2000 and things that made the year all the more memorable. So here's a list of 17 things that turn 17 this year:
Nachange Saari Raat – Stereo Nation
You must be wondering this song released in 2016, why is this here? No, you are wrong. That was a remake of the song. Originally, this song released as a part of the album Slave II Fusion by Stereo Nation and went on to become one of his biggest hits.
Mela was one of the most remarkable releases of the year. Even the Wikipedia page states that it was one of the biggest box office failures of the year. But no matter how many time Twinkle Khanna claims that it is the biggest mistake of her life, the song Dekho 2000 Zamana aa Gaya played everywhere on the new year's eve without fail.
Hrithik Roshan and Kaho Na…Pyaar Hain
Yes, it was 17 years ago. Kaho Na…Pyar Hain is a movie that nobody can forget. Not only the movie made a Guinness World Record by winning the most number of awards but it was also Hrithik Roshan's debut. Who knew that the "new sensation" will go on to become one of the sexiest men in the world. He starred in two other movies in the same year viz. Mission Kashmir and Fiza.
Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Refugee
2000 was the year of the most-awaited debuts. It was the year Junior Bachchan debuted along with another member Kapoor family – Kareena Kapoor. The film was an average at the box office but there was no looking back for the debutantes.
While we eagerly wait for Hera Pheri three and Baburao – the third installment, nothing can match the original one. It has been 17 years of Babu Bhaiyya making us laugh in Baburao ka style.
You just started singing "Hum bhi hai josh mein" in your head, right? All the scores of this film were a hit and as it happens pretty rarely that the sibling duo gets applauded more than the lead pair. This movie was one of those.
Giving a letter written on a maple leaf is still as romantic but the movie has turned 17 years old. One more thing to remember is that this movie also marks the debut of Uday Chopra and five others.
Lift Karadey (Always Yours) – Adnan Sami Feat. Govinda
You must have forgotten that Adnan Sami was fat once but you can never ever forget Lift Karadey.
Tanha Dil – Shaan
One of the most successful songs by Shaan, Tanha Dil won the MTV Asia Music Award for Best Solo Album. People still listen to it just as fondly.
Gajagamini, directed by the late M.F. Hussain was like one of his paintings – those who understand would appreciate it, and those who don't will not. The story sans plot, hero, heroine or story had everything. The film was a tribute to a woman and all that a woman has been for the world through time.
Maaeri – Euphoria
One of the most famous song by the Indian Pop pioneers Euphoria, Maaeri was a part of their second album "Phir Dhoom". They have also delivered awesome hits like Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali and Dhoom Pichak Dhoom.
Piya Basanti – Ustad Sultan Khan
Sung by K.S. Chitra and Ustad Sultan Khan, Piya Basanti is a beautiful song that still has comments like Listening to it in 2016 on YouTube.
The Badhshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan was blessed with a princess in 2000, on the 22nd of May. She will turn 17 this year and is already a fashionista.
Raju Chacha was Ajay Devgn's first production and was very much appreciated for its production value and visual effects. It was especially loved by the kids because of the set, which actually looks like our dream house. Oh and that toy train serving the food!
Last but not the least, Hey Ram was selected the Indian entry for Oscar Awards 2000. The film was written, produced and directed by Kamal Haasan and also starred him. The film was shot in two languages simultaneously and also starred Shah Rukh Khan.
