18 Forever: Happy Birthday, Bryan Adams

Bryan Adams turns 56 today. We still believe in his promise though that he will forever be 18. This Canadian rockstar has had an ever widening fan base across the globe; one that doesn’t seem like is going to shrink anytime soon. Just ask anybody who jumps and screams with his hands in the air every time the DJ plays Summer of ’69. Nope! Don’t be that guy. Unless you were born yesterday or have been subjected to some horrible DJs, you’d know this multi-instrumentalist has had some incredible tracks to his credit through a career that has spanned almost four decades. And it’s a pity he probably still receives the loudest cheers, each time he begins playing *that* riff of *that* song.

Happy birthday, Mr. Adams. In a part of the world, you have returned a few too many times to loving fans, we celebrate spinning some beautiful songs that are NOT ‘Summer of ’69’. Life is too short for bad DJs!

It’s Only Love

When your world has been shattered
Ain’t nothin’ else matters
It ain’t over – it’s only love

Reckless gave the world a global star. The album featured a few too many popular songs (yes, yes Summer of ’69 too). This one, we particularly love for being one of the most fun collaborations – Bryan Adams and very cool Tina Turner.

Actually, go right ahead and play Reckless in its entirety. Cuts Like a Knife, Run to You, Heaven, Kids Wanna Rock; this album is a masterpiece.

Can’t Stop This Thing We Started

I ain’t Superman and I can’t fly
But if you wanna stop me baby – don’t even try

No, we won’t! This immensely popular track was nominated for two Grammy Awards winning neither. Not that we cared. From Bryan Adams‘ 1991-album Waking Up the Neighbours, this one did shake up a lot more than just the neighborhood.

The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You

The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me…is you

How can you not love this song? That riff? Seriously, rock n’ roll! ‘Nuff said. It was only fitting this song was the lead single of the album titled 18 til I Die

All for Love

When there’s someone that should know
Then just let your feelings show
And make it all for one and all for love

Another interesting collaboration. This one featured Sting and Rod Stewart with Bryan Adams and was written for soundtrack of The Three Musketeers. If you didn’t already know, the title of the song is inspired by the Musketeers’ motto – All for one, one for all.

On a Day Like Today

Free is all you gotta be
Dream dreams no one else can see

It’s a crying shame how not many people rate On a Day Like Today as Bryan Adams‘ best album. It certainly deserves to be among his top three. The title song of the album came with a very interesting music video too. It definitely is one of the best tunes you could belt out randomly strumming that guitar. Simple, pleasing, effective.

This album also featured the very fun When You’re Gone featuring ex-Spice Girl Melanie C

You’re Still Beautiful to Me

Turn out the lights and close the door
Put your head on the pillow let me keep you warm
I wanna run my hands across your face
Lyin’ beside you still the perfect place

This one’s so criminally underrated, we had a tough time looking for the song online. Make do with this cover version by country musician Bryan White. And if you have a copy of 18 til I Die, make sure you got track number 12 on loop.

Of course, a few dozen songs more could have been added to this list. What are your favorites that would make it to The Greatest Bryan Adams Playlist? You know the drill. No Summer of ’69
