2 Countries: Film Review – A Perfect Blend of Fun and Emotions.

Verdict: A decent remake of the original.

Jai Bolo Telangana was the last movie that Shankar N produced and directed 6 years ago, back in 2011. Now, he is back with 2 Countries, starring Sunil and Manisha Raj in the lead roles. Produced and directed by Shankar N, 2 Countries is the remake of a super-hit Malayalam movie with the same title that released a couple of years ago. It also stars Sanjjanaa, Raja Ravindra, Srinivas Reddy and Chandra Mohan among the rest of the cast. The music and background score has been rendered by Gopi Sunder while the cinematography has been handled by C. Ramprasad. The editing department has been taken care by Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao. Though 2 Countries is an official remake of the Malayalam version with the same title, it looks like director Shankar N has made some changes in the screenplay to suit the Telugu nativity as we see his name for the screenplay. Let’s see if 2 Countries can recreate the magic like the original version.

2 Countries - BookMyShow

What is 2 Countries About:

Ullas Kumar (Sunil) is a carefree guy from Venkatapuram who dupes people of money. Laya (Manisha Raj) is an NRI who settles in the US. Because of mistaken identity, Ullas Kumar gets a marriage proposal from Laya through a broker who mistakes him for another local MLA with the same name. Laya and Ullas start liking each other as they also realize that they are childhood friends. They both get married and hell breaks loose when Ullas comes to know that Laya is an alcoholic. Laya leaves Ullas on roads when they reach the US. Ullas finds Laya’s residence in the US and resolves to teach her a lesson. The rest of the story is how Ullas and Laya sort out their differences.

What Works:

Just like the original, 2 Countries is an excellent mix of humor and decent emotions that make for a neat family entertainer. The cinematography is handled very well and the locales in the US are spellbinding. The director needs to be commended for not missing the essence of the original and has also made some minor changes to suit to the Telugu nativity. The lead pair Sunil and Manisha Raj make an excellent pair and their chemistry works well. The rest of the cast are apt in their roles.

What Could Have Been Better:

There is nothing much that could have been better as the makers have remade an already proven film in another language that released a couple of years ago. However, the placement of the songs may be a speed breaker to the smooth flow of narration.

Why You Should Watch:

Watch 2 Countries for its humor and emotional connect. On a whole, this will cater to all types of audience. Book tickets for you and your family and enjoy 2 Countries this weekend.
