After bidding adieu to the season of love, Dharma productions surprises yet again with a romantic album comprising 26 minutes of healthy Bollywood music. The soon-to-release 2 States, starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor is already reining the charts with the film’s music being appreciated by the aam aadmi and industrywallahs!
The makers released Offo on March 7, 2014 soon after which the immensely anticipated Locha-e-Ulfat was out for the masses. The film’s trailer created the right proportions of buzz for the music of the film, which was out as a complete album on March 14, 2014. Composed by the celebrated musician trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music of 2 states stays true to the theme of this Bollywood adaptation. Since the time Bollywood has known college romance, the musicians have never failed to strike the right chord. Offo has lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya which is peppy and promises to bring you on the dance floor. Sung by Aditi Singh Sharma and Amitabh, this song gained humungous hits on YouTube soon after its release.
2014 has been the lyricist’s year with hits like Hasee Toh Phasee and Shaadi Ke Side Effects to Amitabh Bhattacharya’s credit. The man writes even quirkier lyrics this time for Locha-e-Ulfat which is already gaining popularity in the college-goer’s routine life. Apart from the two songs that were high scorers, Abhishek Varman’s film has melodies which are soulful and another few that have heavy doses of Punjabi music.
Mast Magan that has been sung by Arijit Singh and Chinmayi Sripada adds the much-needed punch in this album with the former’s voice gaining instant recognition post his hit from Aashiqui 2. Despite being foot-tapping, Mast Magan is the romantic high in this album with the song touching few Sufi styles of music.
The film that is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same title, is a story of romance brewing between Krish and Ananya who come from dynamically different cultural backgrounds in India. Punjab, being an essential character in the film demands a few tracks with the flavor of the place. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy fills this void with Iski Uski and Hulla Re. Iski Uski has voices of Akriti Kakar, Shahid Mallya and Shankar Mahadevan with Punjabi lyrics which speak at length of whisky and chicken with enough gusto to make you do the bhangra! However, Hulla Re fails to create magic even after being heard it on loop.
Chaandaniya by K. Mohan and Yashita Sharma is the solo track which is soulful and sets rhythm in this album which mostly has songs for the young at heart.
Priced at Rs.175, the music of 2 States though isn’t the best rendition by the trio but is yet worth your time and penny. With the film’s release around the corner, music of 2 States will gain popularity in the weeks ahead in circuits smitten by the charming appeal of its principal cast.
