The year 2013 has been a balanced year for Bollywood. Bollywood delivered entertaining masala flicks like that were not just entertaining but were of a good quality as well.
Whoever said that cinema was all about art, was damn right. Cinema is art. But whoever said that Bollywood is only about making money, wasn’t right. Year 2013 bears witness to this. This year we saw films like Chennai Express,Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bhag Milkha Bhag, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, that weren’t just good films, but films that displayed the epitome of Bollywood-ness. Bollywood is art at it’s best.
Year 2013, has almost come to an end, however Dhoom 3, which will release on December 20th, is rumoured to break all records, and make-way for a grander 2014. Bollywood has lined-up some of the biggest releases in the upcoming year.
Salman, Shahrukh, Ranbir, Akshay and Ajay Devgn are all geared up to entertain their fans in 2014. What’s surprising is that the fact that many of these films will be released at more or less the same time. This clearly shows that Bollywood isn’t afraid of competition.
The notion that first quartet of the year is lean on business is no longer true. We predict that Bollywood might make a large chunk of it’s money in the first quartet itself as films Dedh Ishqiya, Jai Ho, Hasee Toh Phasee, Gunday, Highway, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Gulaab Gang, Holiday, Bewakoofian and Happy Ending are slated to release between January to April.
Dedh Ishqiya starring Madhuri Dixit, is a comedy-thriller film directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi in the lead roles. Taking on from where Ishqiya left off, Dedh Ishqiya discovers yet another escapade of Khalujan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi). This time Khalujan, is disguised as a poet to woo the widowed the Begum(Madhuri Dixit) of Mahmudabad.
Jai Ho stars Salman Khan and Tabu. It is the remake of Telugu film Stalin that had Chiranjeevi in the lead role. Industry-insiders are predicting this film to be one of the biggest hit of the years. The film is the story of Jai, an upright common man who is fighting a solitary war against corruption and injustice. Looks like playing the role of the justice-giver has become Salman’s favorite.
Kick will be Salman Khan’s second big release of 2014. It will supposedly be released amidst Eid festivities, and will be amongst Salman’s biggest hits ever! The film marks the directorial debut of Sajid Nadiadwala as well. The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster by the same name.
Hasee Toh Phasee
Hasee Toh Phasee features Sidharth Malhotra and the effervescent Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles. This will be Siddharth’s second film with Dharma Productions after his debut movie, Student Of The Year. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films are joining hands to produce this one.
Gunday will feature Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles while Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan will appear in supporting roles. The film is written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film is scheduled to be release on Valentine’s Day in 2014. As the title suggests, the film is about the side-effects of shaadi. There chances of this film being a huge hit amongst the youth are very high.

After Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Hrithik and Katrina will once again romance each other in Siddharth Raj Anand’s action-thriller, Bang Bang. The film is being produced by Fox Star Studios, one of India’s leading film production and distribution studios. Detective Byomkesh Bakshi
After making his mark in parallel cinema, with films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye and Love Sex Aur Dhoka, Dibakar Banerjee brings to us Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. The film will be produced under Yashraj Banners and will star Shushant Singh Rajput, who will be playing the role of a detective. The film is based on the story of Shurdendu Banerjee, and will be shot in Kolkatta.
Happy New Year
Happy New Year, starring Shahrukh Khan is one of the most awaited films flicks of the New Year. After Main Hoo Naa and Om Shanti Om, Shahrukh and Farah Khan will be seen collaborating together. The film will be produced by Gauri Khan, under Red Chillies Entertainment.
Bombay Velvet will probably be the last big release of 2014. The film, directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap is a neo noir film, based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables (a story of how the city of Mumbai became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, violence, greed and Jazz music). The film will star Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, while Karan Johar will play the role of the quintessential villain. The film is apparently a realization of Anurag Kashyap’s long cherished dream, that he has lived day in and day out.
Going by the crazy line-up of films of 2014, it seems that film-lovers, will have a cinematically-enriching year. The content, that is to be churned out, too seems very promising and may have a global impact. Eagerly looking forward to Bollywood 2014.
