Ajith – The award-winning actor

He’s got the style, he’s got the charisma and he’s got the looks! And the actor who has these three unique qualities is Ajith Kumar. The popular actor, who has occupied the hotspot for years, has delivered a number of critical and financial hits while enjoying the position of a ‘mass’ hero.  Over the course of his career, Ajith has given us a variety of stellar performances. He may not be an actor who stars in off-beat films, but he caters to the needs to his fans by appearing in unconventional roles. These films have fetched him accolades and given his career a boost. As his latest movie – Yennai Arindhaal, is nearing release, we bring to you the actor’s most award-winning performances.

Vaali (1999)
From the careers of director S. J. Suryaah and actor Ajith, there’s one worthy film. And that film is Vaali. One of the biggest hits of the actor’s career, Vaali was the first film in which the actor played dual roles. The film tells the tale of a deaf and dumb man who lusts after his younger brother’s wife. Ajith exhilarates as the cocky and conniving brother who manipulates his twin into believing he’s innocent. By giving his role the psychological intensity it required, he delivered a stellar performance and won his first Filmfare award in 1999.
Villain (2002)
Teaming up with K. S. Ravikumar, Ajith starred in Villain. Ajith played dual roles in this film as well. One was a sweet and charming hero and the other was a mentally ill handicapped man. This film was tricky because Ajith had to play two contrasting characters. He hit the balance just right, knowing when to act like the shy brother and when to explode with energy during the action sequences. This film eventually earned the actor his second Filmfare award.
Varalaru (2006)
The actor teamed up with K. S. Ravikumar again to deliver the super-hit movie Varalaru. Ajith has always been a committed actor with endless charisma, but the actor provided an extra edge as a dancer in this movie. There was a raw fragility he provided to this character. He had no qualms adding a feminine touch to his character. His scintillating performance as a dancer gave us a stunning result. The actor’s declining career got a second chance and eventually earned him his third Filmfare award.
Mankatha (2011)
If there is an actor who fits the bill of playing a charmer and a devious villain, then he is Ajith! The actor had previously played the role of a sweet, smiling hero who always was the charmer. As a contrasting change, Ajith showed us that he can also play the role of a conniving police office. This he proved in director Venkat Prabhu’s – Mankatha. The actor was highly praised for portraying a full length negative role and breaking the stereotypical image of a hero in Tamil cinema. Needless to say, this role went on to become so iconic, that his character was replicated in several films along with his popular dialogue – Money, Money, Money! He won the Vijay award for the favourite hero category.
