Can’t wait to watch it this weekend? Here are 4 statistically sound reasons why the film is going to be a success:1. The holy trinity. This is the third film that is written, directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn. Though he has been involved in many other films, very few of them have pleased the audience and the critics as much as Stardust and Kick-Ass.
Films directed by Vaughn have also drawn the attention of award committees. Films produced and/or written by him have been commercially successful. However, all of Vaughn’s directorial ventures (Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class) have done the rounds on the awards circuit! Since Vaughn is directing, writing and producing Kingsman: The Secret Service, this is certainly a good sign!
2. The audience loves Colin Firth. This doesn’t really come as a surprise, but we’ve got the numbers to back it up! 57% of the actor’s films had a higher audience rating than the critic rating! With Kingsman: The Secret Service already certified "Fresh" (73%) by critics, it’s safe to say that this film is going to be a crowd-pleaser too!
3. Matthew Vaughn + Comic adaptations = The recipe for success.
Every time Matthew Vaughn has been involved in adapting a comic book, the final product was a hit with the critics and the audiences. From X-Men to Stardust to Kick-Ass, all these adaptations have garnered acclaim and broken box office records!
From what we’ve seen so far, Kingsman: The Secret Service (based on The Secret Service) seems like it’ll follow the same pattern!
4. Apart from The Secret Service, Kick-Ass is the only title by Icon Comics that has been adapted into a film, and calling it a hit would be a gross understatement! At a worldwide collection of over $96 million, there’s no denying that the film ruled the box office. With 1.4 million units sold in the first week, it took home media by storm too!
But that’s not all. At 11.4 million illegal downloads, the film was also the second-most pirated film of 2010! Furthermore, Kick-Ass earned 9 nominations – more than any other film directed by Matthew Vaughn!
Kingsman, the second Icon Comics title to be adapted into a film, is bound to be a success even if it does half as well!
