While everyone is busy talking about Karan Johar’s next big release, we thought it would be nice to remind you that exactly 4 years back on this very day, KJo launched three extremely talented new-comers in Bollywood with his movie, Student Of The Year. Yes, it seems like just yesterday when a cute yet chic Shanaya aka Alia Bhatt made an entry with the “Gulaabi Aankhein” song displaying her love for high-end fashion brands, but it’s been 4 years already. (And yes, we do feel old, but let’s not talk about that). At the same time, we saw two very handsome hunks who were confident and irresistibly hot, make their way to Bolly-land (read: Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan). So, to mark the launch of these 3 A-list actors of today, we thought we'd have a look at how far they've come.
Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt):
We couldn’t thank KJo enough for introducing Alia with this fab movie. And at the same time, we can’t ignore the efforts and hard-work that the Bhatt beti has given to her first film. Alia fantastically played the role of a rich, spoilt-for-choice yet emotional girl. And after her launch movie, there has been no looking back for this cutie patootie. She has continued to amuse us with her performances in movies like Highway and Udta Punjab. Even though her Shaandaar wasn’t as shaandaar at the box-office, there weren’t any flaws in her performance. We saw her last in Kapoor and Sons and once again, totally loved her work.
Alia is currently busy with promotions of her next movie, Dear Zindagi with SRK and we can’t wait to see the chemistry between the two.
Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan)
The new-age chocolate boy. That’s what we would want to label the Dhawan scion. When Varun entered the film industry, everyone had eyes on him. There were loads of expectations on him and he definitely met them all. He played the role of a rich brat who was dating Shanaya but was flirting with the other girls as well. His next remarkable movie was Badlapur, for which he was appreciated by critics for his acting skills. Varun has also enamored millions of girls with his dance moves which were highlighted in his next, ABCD 2.
Dilwale was a big movie for him as he bagged an opportunity to work with the hit jodi (Shahrukh and Kajol) and although his Dishoom didn’t do too well at the box office, we loved his character Junaid Khan.
We will see Varun next in Shuddhi, which is a Dharma venture and is much awaited by fans.
Abhimanyu Singh (Sidharth Malhotra)
When you get compared to Big B, you know you’re doing it right. Sidharth has been well-received by everyone even though he had no backing of any sorts. His tall frame and baritone voice have been compared to Mr. Bachchan many times before. Sid played the role of a not-so rich hottie who ends up with the heroine in the end. He wins the title of the 'Student Of The Year' in the movie. His Hasee Toh Phasee with Parineeti Chopra was a romantic comedy and in Ek Villain we saw him playing the role of the angry young man. Both these movies proved beneficial for his career.
We got to see him romancing his alleged current girlfriend – Alia – in his next, Kapoor and Sons and we loved their chemistry. The last we saw of Sid on the large screen was in Baar Baar Dekho, which did not do that well.
We aren’t sure about his upcoming movies, but we have our eyes on you, Siddy.
With talks of the makers working on a sequel to SOTY getting serious, we wouldn’t mind seeing the new generation bringing their talent to the movies. But this time around, we would love to see two actresses romancing one actor. How about, Jhanvi Kapoor (Sridevi’s daughter) and Sara Ali Khan (Saif’s daughter) opposite Tiger Shroff, who has already been confirmed for this movie? Excited much? Tell us in the comments below which actors would you love to see in SOTY 2.
