Firstly, take a breath! To all the DC fans – if you have been living under a cave for the past few weeks, we have a surprise for you. It’s been rumored that Arnold I-will-be-back Schwarzenegger may just make a cameo in the upcoming DC movie, Wonder Woman. As per a few tabloids, he may play Zeus, the Greek god or Ares, the God Of War himself (rather CGI version of him). This isn’t Arnie’s first rodeo in the DC universe having played an over-the-top Mr. Freeze who delivers bad puns every two seconds, one can only hope for something better. Which brings us to the next question, who should play Darkseid? We bring you our top five picks who could nail it as Darkseid.
If the rumors of him being Ares or Zeus are quashed then we dearly hope he is roped in as the main antagonist in the JL movie. Not only he has the physique but he is also great at keeping a poker face, something Darkseid is known for.
We shouldn't have to justify our placement of Bridges on this list, considering he checks almost all the boxes required to fill in as Darkseid. But it’s highly unlikely that Warner Bros. would cast an already established, star-powered super-villain in the Marvel universe as their central super-villain. Nevertheless, keep your fingers crossed.
Andre would be our first choice and he may very well claim the role of Lord of Apokolips having already voiced the character in the animated movie, Superman / Batman: Apocalypse. Braugher’s unmistakable rumbling voice, add to that, layers of digital makeup and armor, will make him a menacing, cold and a measured villain.
While it seems likely, given the Oscar-worthy actors that have been joining the DCEU, there’s no rule saying that the actor playing Darkseid needs to be on par with them. And this fact opens the door for our beloved Stephen. Mchattie isn't new to Zack’s directorial style as he portrayed a retired Night Owl in Watchmen. Hence, he may very well be a good choice.
If films like Fences, The Equalizer and Man on Fire are to go by, Denzel Washington can certainly pull off an intimidating overpowering villain. Imagining him staring down right at the audience with his soul-piercing eyes is too tempting to ignore.
