For most people, "Mother-In-Law" also means, "run for your life". Thanks to popular culture and some "based on true incidents", these awesome women often are seen as those wicked ones who are only good at torturing their daughters-in-law (or sons-in-law; we are sympathetic to your cause too, yes). And who is to be blamed for that? We've seen movies that showed Lalita Pawar and Aruna Irani portraying the role of a mum-in-law with not very good intentions.
Come to think of it though, not all of them fit true to that horrific stereotype and our film industry is proof as we've seen some real amazing mothers-in-law too who have broken this notion. Here's celebrating Mother-in-law Day with five such ladies who are, or would make the best 'Saas'
Hema Malini (Baghban)
The most co-operative mother-in-law one could possibly have. Pooja (Hema Malini) without complaining, lives in the smallest room of the house and willingly does all the household chores.
Amrita Singh (2 States)
The 'kuch khatti kuch meethi' saas any girl would want to have. Amrita delivers a power-packed performance as Kavita Malhotra who tried a lot to be evil to Ananya (Alia Bhatt) but turns out to be the lady with a golden heart.
Jaya Bachchan (K3G)
It's difficult to choose between your husband and son when your husband is not ready to accept the daughter-in-law into the family. Not only does Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) welcome Anjali (Kajol) into the house but also makes her husband realize his mistake.
Shefali Shah (Dil Dhadakne Do)
You won't find too many women who would not listen to their daughter and support their son-in-law instead. Neelam Mehra (Shefali Shah) isn't particularly happy with daughter Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) when she says she wants a divorce.
Kirron Kher (Dostana)
It's one thing to accept someone from a different caste or religion and a totally different thing to accept someone from a different gender. Here's to the most open-minded mother of all time! Then again, we all know how things turned out but at least Rani Kapoor (Kirron Kher) tried.
Does that not change your opinion about mothers-in-law now? Happy Mother-in-Law day!
