"Out of sight, out of mind", is an absolutely apt phrase for Bollywood celebrities. It is said that the shelf life of the 'heroine' is way lesser than that of the hero. Once the former takes a backseat, there are plenty of beautiful and talented faces to take her place. However, there are some evergreen beauties who can never be forgotten, they have been the queens of our hearts and they will continue to be loved.
Making a comeback means keeping your previous image and the prospect of future on stake. Some manage to successfully make a mark while some fail miserably. Here is the list of five actresses who didn't quite return to a roaring welcome:
Madhuri Dixit Nene
It is heart-breaking on its own that her name is in a list of unsuccessful movies. Many stars like Ranbir Kapoor accept how heart-broken they were when they heard the news of her marriage. The Dhak-Dhak girl left the industry for a long time and lived a normal life with her husband and family in the US. However, the actress returned to the big screen with the film Aaja Nachle in 2007. Though the music and dance numbers of the film were appreciated, the film was a flop.
Karisma Kapoor was once the leading lady of Govinda, Salman Khan and many other stars. After Baaz: A Bird in Danger (2003), she took a nine-year break as wedding bells rang. She made a comeback with Vikram Bhatt's romantic-thriller Dangerous Ishq in 2012. The movie had a horrid run at the box-office.
The Padma Shri-awardee is considered as the evergreen beauty of Bollywood. She made her share of brief appearances in films like Krrish and Sadiyaan. Her comeback though was with a 2014 film called Super Nani that she starred in with Sharman Joshi, Randhir Kapoor and Anupam Kher. The film collected a few crores at the box office and was declared a major failure.
The cute and bubbly Preity Zinta, starred and co-produced Ishkq in Paris in 2013. The film was a box-office disaster. It isn't even one of those films one remembers for being a major failure. Preity suffered from a serious financial crisis after Ishkq in Paris tanked. Though she is rarely considered for a lead role anymore, she keeps making special appearances in some movies.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Those blue eyes and the aura, Aishwarya is hailed by many as the most beautiful woman on earth. But the cruel rule of the shelf-life applies to all. After having her first baby, she took a break. Post Guzaarish in 2010, she made a comeback with Jazbaa in 2015 which did not do well. She then shared screen space with Randeep Hooda in Sarbjit this year, which in spite of boasting of a strong story, met with lukewarm response.
We look forward to see Aishwarya work her magic in Karan Johar's upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and try her luck. Who knows? Third time lucky, maybe.
