5 Badass Senior Citizens of Bollywood

Gone are the days when Bollywood films portrayed the elderly as sickness-ridden grandparents whose akhri ichcha was to see their grandchildren getting married. Such clichés have become way too passé and over the years, we have witnessed a rise in more realistic and bold storylines in movies, which the audiences have lapped up. Let us have a quick look at the pot-smoking, whiskey-loving daadas and daadis of today’s Bollywood. We bring you some of the most hatke senior citizens characters portrayed in Bollywood films.

Characters who redefined cool and gave us goals, proving that age is, indeed, just a number!

Kapoor & Sons (2016)
Daadu (Rishi Kapoor) was one of the most loving character we have come across in a recent Bollywood film, hands down.Still young at heart, Daadu from Kapoor & Sons loved watching porn, smoked up with his grandkids and applied a face mask to retain his youthful looks. Didn’t we all want to give Daadu a warm hug and wish he was our grandfather too!

Natsamrat (2016)
One of the finest Marathi films of the year, Natsamrat introduced us to the character of Ganpat Ramchandra Belvalkar (Nana Patekar). This retired theatre artist is not afraid to voice his honest opinions, love his wine, live his life to the fullest and teach his granddaughter some fun curse words as a comeback for a bully at her school.

Shaandaar (2015)
Mummiji (Sushma Seth) from Shaandaar may not be one of your favorite characters, but is definitely one of the toughest ones we have seen. After all, not every mummiji gets stoned, strolls on the highway calmly on her high-tech wheelchair and shows the finger to trucks that are stuck behind her. You may not love her, but she was one badass mummiji.

Vicky Donor (2012)
Biji (Kamlesh Gill) in Vicky Donor is probably one of the most progressive grandmother’s we have seen. Playing the role of Vicky’s (Ayushmann Khurrana) paternal grandmother, this Biji is tech-savvy who wishes to have an LED TV and 32GB iPhone, and loves her evening whiskey with her daughter-in-law. With her unabashed views and forward thinking, this is definitely one hatke biji.

Cheeni Kum (2007)
Mrs. Gupta (Zohra Sehgal) from the film Cheeni Kum is what we hope every mother out there should be like. Regardless of what the society thinks, this mother was open to her 64-year-old son (Amitabh Bachchan) dating and marrying a woman 30 years younger than him. Goals!!
